Gated and secure
Every entrance to the urbanisation has a gate, and the site is closed to through traffic. Children can play on the walkways without you worrying about cars.
A small, gated community of two-storey houses and a handful of apartments, built in 2000 on the western edge of Nerja — green, quiet and barely a minute from the sea.
The urbanisation was built in 2000. It is small and exclusive: being only two storeys high it is not overcrowded. It is mainly houses, with only a few apartments, and the community is largely residential — which means it stays peaceful even in the height of summer.
The communal walkways have beautiful raised borders filled with exotic plants — bananas, cacti and flowering shrubs — along with fountains and water features. There is a garden area with benches for simply sitting and relaxing. With gates on all the entrances, the whole site is secure and private. And all of this is less than one minute from the beach.
There are two large supermarkets within five minutes' walk.
Every entrance to the urbanisation has a gate, and the site is closed to through traffic. Children can play on the walkways without you worrying about cars.
Raised planting borders run along the walkways, filled with bananas, cacti and flowering shrubs, with fountains and water features breaking up the paths.
A garden area with benches gives you somewhere to sit and read in the shade, a few steps from the apartment's own terrace.
Both are within a five-minute walk, which makes self-catering straightforward — pick up bread, fruit and wine on your way back from the beach.
Two storeys throughout. No tower blocks, no lifts, no crowds, and none of the noise that comes with a large resort complex.
Walk out of the gate and you are on Playa El Playazo or Playa de la Torrecilla within a minute. You can leave the towels and the sun cream at home and carry them down by hand.
The heart of the urbanisation is a network of pedestrian walkways. Because the site is closed to through traffic, these double as the neighbourhood's front garden — people walk down to the beach, children cycle along them, and the planting and fountains make the whole place feel more like a garden than a building development.
The architecture is classic Andalusian: ochre and cream render, green shutters, white balustrades and terracotta tiling, with a fountain at the centre of the main plaza.
Terracotta amphorae, glazed green tiling and white balustrades are used throughout the communal areas, planted up with palms, oleander and flowering shrubs. It is the sort of detail that makes the urbanisation feel cared for rather than merely built.
Do keep an eye out for Felix the patio cat, who has long considered the walkways his own. He is friendly, entirely unbothered by visitors, and will happily supervise your breakfast.
Nerja Medina occupies a spot that is quiet but not remote: the beach is a minute away, the town centre is a walk along the seafront, and the motorway is a few minutes' drive inland.
